My Capstone: Creating a Sustainable Swimwear Brand
In my capstone project, I am embarking on a mission to launch a swimwear brand that embraces fashion and transparency but also prioritizes environmental sustainability. Every aspect of the brand, from fabric choices to packaging, is designed with eco-consciousness in mind. Our packaging will be entirely biodegradable, ensuring minimal environmental impact throughout the product life cycle.
One of the key features I want to include is its subscription model, offering subscribers a "mystery piece" each month. This not only adds excitement but also encourages customers to stay engaged with a brand that values both affordability and environmental responsibility. Hopefully, ideas like these will keep customers buying from us, and away from fast fashion swimwear brands.
Progress So Far:
As I've begun this exciting project, I've started by conducting extensive research into eco-friendly fabric materials. The goal is to identify fabrics that not only meet high-quality standards but also align with our sustainability goals. By choosing the right materials, I aim to ensure that our swimwear not only looks good but also feels good environmentally. I am leaning towards using Econyl, but I am still exploring other options.
In addition to sustainability, one of my key goals is to slow down the growing "throwaway culture" in fashion. I want to create pieces that are long-lasting, not just in terms of style but also in quality. This approach encourages customers to invest in swimwear that will endure over time, reducing waste and promoting a more thoughtful approach to consumption.
Additionally, I'm in the process of creating a brand book. This foundational document will help outline the core values, mission statement, and visual identity of the brand. It serves as a roadmap, guiding every decision and ensuring consistency, which will help me immensely.
Here are some images from Econyl's website showing some fast facts they provide.
